We are a Mother Daughter Graphic Design Duo! My name is Dawn Cunningham. My journey into graphic design began in the mid 80’s, long before social media and digital flyers were the norm. I had a love for computers since elementary school. My father always made sure I had the best computers growing up. I started designing flyers in middle school, working  with  the old Print Shop Software lol.  and learning the fundamentals of layout, typography, and visual storytelling hands-on. What began as a passion quickly grew into purpose.

Over the years, that passion evolved into multiple ventures in desktop publishing and event design. My first official company, Dawn’s Desktop Designs, laid the foundation for what would eventually become DK Event Designs—a brand built on experience, creativity, and transformation.

Today, DK Event Designs is a mother-and-daughter duo specializing in custom digital design for events, businesses, and personal milestones. We combine decades of creative experience with modern design techniques to bring each client’s vision to life.

In addition to being a graphic artist, I am also a 32-year IT professional with a degree in Computer Science, specializing in technical program management. My technical background allows me to approach design with structure, strategy, and precision—balancing creativity with functionality and professionalism.

Graphic design has always been more than a hobby for me; it’s a lifelong craft. From flyers and branding to event visuals and memorial designs, every project is treated with care, intention, and attention to detail.

Kennedy Cunningham is a junior majoring in Public Health Information Technology (PHIT) at Bowie State University, where she combines creativity with purpose. She currently serves as the Graphic Designer for Bowie State University’s Campus Activities Board (CAB), creating dynamic flyers and promotional graphics for campus-wide events and programming.

In addition to her role at Bowie State, Kennedy brings her design skills to DK Event Designs, where she works alongside her mother as an apprentice—learning the art, business, and discipline of professional graphic design. Under Dawn’s mentorship, she is diligently mastering the craft, gaining hands-on experience, and developing her own creative voice.

Kennedy is known for her strong work ethic, attention to detail, and eagerness to learn. Her dedication to both academics and design excellence has earned her a place on the Dean’s List, and she will be entering her senior year in the fall at Bowie State University.

With talent, drive, and a passion for growth, Kennedy represents the next generation of DK Event Designs—bringing fresh perspective, creativity, and promise to everything she touches.
